Profile

Beatriz Perez - Fine Art & Documentary Photographer exploring womanhood, cultural identity, memory, and the body.

Biography

Born in Spain and raised in Venezuela, Beatriz Perez is a fine art and documentary photographer who retrained in Europe after a career in consultancy. She holds a BTEC in Art & Design and an MA in Photographic Studies from the University of Westminster. Her practice bridges fine art and documentary traditions, shaped by hands-on experience at LA Noble Gallery and Camden Arts Centre, and by assisting Magnum photographer Chris Steele-Perkins on The New Londoners project (2014–2019).

Her work has been exhibited in London and internationally, and featured in DOCU Magazine, Women United Art Magazine Issue XII, ArtisTank, LensCulture, Source, and I Love Talent. She was shortlisted for the Renaissance Photography Prize (Disorder category) in 2012 and longlisted for the Women United Art Prize (Photography category) in 2025. Her prints are held in private collections in New York, Spain, and Venezuela.

In 2019, she co-founded ART from HEART CIC, an award-winning arts organisation that advocates for women’s rights and environmental justice through large-scale multimedia exhibitions and public engagement. As co-creator and Director of the ECOFeminism Festival, Perez continues to use photography as a tool for storytelling, cultural reclamation, and visual activism.

Statement

My practice bridges fine art and creative documentary photography, grounded in research and visual storytelling. Motherhood was the catalyst that first drew me to photography, heightening my awareness of how memory, cultural identity, and family histories shape our lives. Inspired by the strength and resilience of women within my family and across cultures, I explore the layered experiences of womanhood through the places women inhabit, the objects they cherish, and the traces they leave behind.

Working with both staged and on-location images, I draw attention to gestures, domestic spaces, and cultural rituals that carry personal and collective meaning. These visual fragments become markers of memory, connecting intimate histories with broader social and cultural contexts.

Through this work, I examine how memory and lived experience shape female identity and belonging. My photographs seek to reveal the complexity of womanhood while inviting reflection on the cultural narratives that shape how women are seen, remembered, and represented.
